What are some easy dog breeds to housebreak?

I’d like to get a dog soon, but I live in a small apartment. I hear chows are pretty much self-housebreaking, but I don’t know that I want to deal with their antisocial tendencies. What are some other suggestions? I’d like something smart, fairly quiet, and easy going.
I don’t expect any dog to train itself. It’s just would like one that’s not real hard to housebreak since I’ve never had to housebreak one before.
